EV charging
A 7–22 kW wallbox charges the car at home overnight, and with solar and smart control — on the daytime surplus.
Price from: 50,900 ₽ Russia
3,858 ₫ per kWh Vietnam

How it works
At home, cars charge on alternating current: a single-phase charger gives up to 7.4 kW, a three-phase one 11 or 22 kW. An hour of charging at 11 kW is about 50 km of driving at an average consumption of 191 Wh per km.
The charger’s connector has to match the car: Type 2 and CCS2 in Europe and Russia, GB/T on Chinese cars; the Japanese CHAdeMO is on its way out.
A charger with a HEMS charges the car with the solar surplus. Bidirectional charging (V2H, V2G) is still rare: in the UK, Octopus has a V2G tariff for one “car + charger” pair.
Pros
- Cheaper and more convenient at home overnight
- 11 kW — about 50 km per hour
- The solar surplus goes into the car, not to the grid for pennies
- Load balancing protects the house’s grid connection
Cons
- 11–22 kW needs three phases and spare capacity
- Different connectors: Type 2, CCS2, GB/T
- V2H and V2G are still one-off setups

Russia and Vietnam
Russia case by case
The charger type follows the car: Type 2 or GB/T. You need spare capacity on the grid connection, and often load balancing with the rest of the house.
Vietnam relevant
VinFast sold 175,099 cars in Vietnam in 2025; the V-Green network has more than 150,000 ports. At its stations charging costs 3,858 ₫ per kWh, free for VinFast owners until 30.06.2027. At home, charging is billed on the household tiers with no night tariff, so daytime solar pays especially well.
When it is worth it and when it is not
Worth it
- The car spends the night at home
- You have solar and a daytime surplus
- A café, hotel or farm — a charging point for guests
Not worth it
- A 5–7 kW grid connection with no way to upgrade it
- The car almost always charges at work
Safety and rules
A dedicated circuit, a breaker and an RCD with DC leakage protection; an outdoor charger needs an IP54 enclosure or better.
Goes well with

Solar panels
Modules on a roof, a façade or the ground turn light into electricity. The cheapest new electricity in the world — but only by day and with big seasonal swings.

Smart energy management
Software decides when to charge the battery and the car, heat water and run the heat pump, so that more of your own sun stays at home.

Battery storage
LFP batteries store the daytime sun for the evening and keep the house running during outages. Packs have fallen to $70 per kWh, but a turnkey system is still expensive.
